Aw man, 2020 really sucks. I’m looking forward to reading the stories though. He was a larger than life coach. My favorite off the top of my head is when they were in the national championship game against UNC and he told Ewing not to let the ball touch the defensive rim the whole first quarter and he didn’t care how many goaltends he was called for. So Georgetown was leading something like 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, with all 10 of UNC’s points coming from goaltends

I watched the finals game where Georgetown's young guard threw the ball away to a North Carolina player in the final seconds, I think Georgetown was down by one and it was their chance to score. End of the game Thompson gives the kid a big bear hug. He seemed like a big imposing hard man, but he cared about the kids he coached. Thompson fan for life after that.
